Former Hannover 96 midfielder Genki Haraguchi has extended his contract with Belgian club Beerschot for another season. The 34-year-old Japanese veteran, who joined Beerschot in September, has quickly established himself as a key player, continuing his impressive career.
Haraguchi, whose extension was announced alongside Brian Plat, Nick Shinton, and Dennis Gyamfi, has played 26 games in all competitions since his move, scoring four goals. His experience and versatility are proving to be of great value to the team.
It seemed Haraguchi's time in European football was over when he left VFB Stuttgart in 2024 to return to the J League with Urawa Red Diamonds. However, after just one season, he made his return to Belgium, proving his enduring class.
Prior to that, Haraguchi spent years in the German football system. His longest spell was with Hertha Berlin, where he played from 2014 to 2018. During this period, he made 105 appearances for the Berliners, scoring six goals before leaving the club at the end of the 2017/2018 season.
In January 2018, he joined Fortuna Dusseldorf on a brief loan spell. There, Genki Haraguchi was part of the team that won the 2. Bundesliga under coach Friedhelm Funkel, though he did not return for their subsequent season in the top flight.
Subsequently, the experienced midfielder joined Hannover 96, where he spent another important phase of his career and established himself as a key performer. His time with 'Die Roten' was formative for his further trajectory.
