Hannover 96 loses its long-time goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. The 36-year-old joins 1. FC Köln, where he signed a contract until 2027.

What happened?

Ron-Robert Zieler had still imagined staying with Hannover 96 in February, but now his departure is final. The 2014 World Cup winner returns to his hometown of Cologne and will be used as a backup goalkeeper behind Marvin Schwäbe at 1. FC Köln.

Why did Zieler switch?

Zieler himself explained that he decided to switch because 1. FC Köln is his home and he was shown a clear perspective for the time after his active career.

How does Hannover 96 react?

Hannover 96 coach Christian Titz had covered up the Zieler personnel issue, but with the impending transfer of Nahuel Noll, Zieler would have lost his status as a regular goalkeeper. | Player | Club | Transfer fee | | Ron-Robert Zieler | 1. FC Köln | 200,000 Euro |

What's next?

Hannover 96 has already signed 14 new players this summer, while 1. FC Köln has signed four new players. Zieler is the eleventh departure from Hannover 96 this season.
